Corona Diaries 30 April 2020
Yesterday saw us complete the work for this round with Desa Bunutan and their 10 Banjars
With additional families being added at the last minute, we ended up with over 700 ( forgive me for not sitting and adding them all up as my morning has been filled with ordering and numbers and brain on overload)
Tomorrow we commence with Desa Culik with 525 families on this round. We will do Banjars Amertasari and Pekandelan which total 188 and continue next week.
Order today consisted of :
500 x 5 kg of rice at a cost of 23,000,000 IDR25 cases of oil at 3,875,000210 trays of eggs at 7,560,000
10 boxes of soap at 3,650,000
2000 masks at 10,000,000
Totalling 48,085,000
We are very grateful to our friend Dex Ebby, a local rasta singer from Abang, whose wife works in the market and they have been able to secure better pricing for us , every rupiah we save means we can continue for longer.
Evolution Divers have gifted us their trucks again to do the pickup , we are truly blessed to have such amazing support from the diving community. The majority of our volunteers come from within here as well. So another early start for us tomorrow departing Amed at 7.30AM to get back in time for the set up.
Eurodive also provides us with their pickup to move things around in Amed, a supporter of our Yayasan since the very beginning in 2017 . They will help us move the leftover stock from our last distribution to the next one.
Some final thoughts for the day...if you do not agree with something that you see an aid giver doing , maybe spending money on donuts for children to bring them some joy, what the contents of an aid pack contain, whether someone uses a plastic bag or brings a bucket, anything at all that irritates you - spare a quick moment before you send your opinion, sarcasm, or scathing remarks and ask yourself what that aid person/org is going through, how tired and stressed they may be, how hard they are fighting for donations to continue, what their own personal financial situation is and what stress they are facing, then reconsider if your words are necessary, kind or really useful.
Kindness and compassion are what are really important right now, if you can’t be kind, please put your thoughts in quarantine. We are not perfect, we are all just doing the best that we possibly can.
Late entry- just came out of a Zoom meeting with Dr Paul Zietz organized by Nomads Giving Back ( thank you) Wear a mask , act as if you have the virus as 50-60% are asymptomatic ( no symptoms) who can infect you and your loved ones. Practice social distancing , stay home, only go out for essentials. Wearing a mask could be the new norm for the foreseeable future.
